Long DescriptionKINARM Exoskeleton Lab™ combines a chair with robotic ‘arms’, that fully support a subject's arms, and a virtual/augmented reality system that enables neuroscience and clinical researchers to study the behaviour of subjects suffering from neurological dysfunction. KINARM Standard Tests provides a battery of standardized sensory, motor and cognitive tasks: such as hitting balls with virtual paddles, or interacting with objects in a virtual world. Once the tests are completed, the system instantly generates a detailed report, pinpointing variations from normal behaviour. KINARM was designed to address the difficulty of quantifying and manipulating the mechanics of multi-joint motion. Now the lab provides objective and quantitative assessment of brain function for subjects with upper-limb weakness such as in stroke. The lab has resulted in over two dozen clinical research publications that are dramatically altering the assessment of, and hence management of rehabilitation programs of subjects suffering from a brain injury.
